Writing Level 1: Structure
Mondays 7-10pm
Begins Jan. 5th
Introduction to the comic structure. This class breaks down and examines the mechanics of comedy. Comic structure, premise, character, styles, and genre are simplified and explained. This class is perfect for the novice or for experienced writers seeking a return to the basics. Includes in class and homework writing assignments, as well as lecture and guest speakers.
“What I got out of this was a strong grasp of the fundamentals. This is the basics of what you need to know to write comedy.”
Talk Show Writing
Saturdays 3-6pm
Begins Jan. 10th
This 8 week workshop includes everything students need to create a talk show oriented writing portfolio: two-liners, topical joke writing, commentary monologues, character monologues, desk pieces, remote segments, audience interaction, and more. Students leave the course with a standard industry talk show portfolio suitable for submission to agents, producers, and network executives.
Taught by Michael McCarthy
Sitcom Writing
Sundays 12-3pm
Begins Jan. 11th
Taught by Michael McCarthy
Students learn to develop, write, market, and pitch an original sitcom spec script in just 8 weeks!
Saturday Night Live Portfolio CLOSED
Sundays 3-6pm
Begins Jan. 11th
Taught by Michael McCarthy
Saturday Night Live Portfolio
Students create a state-of-the-art portfolio for submission to “Saturday Night Live,” including a cold opening, several monologues, a complete Weekend Update, several digital shorts, film and TV parody sketches, commercial parodies, existing character sketches, as well as the more abstract premises of relationship scenes, teaching scenes, and conceptual scenes. Over the course of eight weeks, the student’s portfolio is written and rewritten with an emphasis on better vs. best—with a live performance of the student’s material available. The eighth and final week is completely devoted to the mechanics of marketing.
WORKSHOPS:
TWO PERSON SHOW MASTER CLASS
Wednesdays 7-10pm

Taught By David Razowsky
$160.00
The male half of Razowsky & Clifford will teach a four-week master class on the art of the two-person improv show. Learn how to create longer sustainable scenes, and discover the elements that make you and your partner different than the other duos out there. Find your scenes quicker and easier, make bolder choices, play slower, go deeper. If you have a partner, bring ’em. If not, find someone you want to work with for four weeks, ask them to join you, and register.
